Baby Essentials: Top Baby Products Every First Time Mom Needs

Hi mamas! I hope you all had a wonderful week so far! 🙂

I’ve had a few months to test these products out, so wanted to go ahead and  share my top essential baby products every first time mom needs in their life!

I registered for the Fisher Price My Little Lamb Platinum Edition Deluxe Newborn Rock n’ Play Sleeper with Vibration, after reading all the positive reviews. Now there are tons of sleepers out there, but I personally love this one! It is so soft and great for keeping your newborn feeling cozy and warm! I was hesitant at first to use it because you hear about prolonged use leading to SIDS if used at night, but If you watch your baby I don’t think you will be OK. My son absolutely loved this thing, and it saved us on multiple grumpy occasions! There were times when nothing but the Rock n’ Play would help my son nap! My son also had acid reflux and the incline on this sleeper really seemed to help. My husband did not have difficulties assembling this together, and the entire cover is machine washable (as well as the little lamb attachments on the canopy). The material is very soft, which is perfect for a newborns, and also super cute. The canopy is more of for decoration, but my son did like to occasionally stare at the little lambs hanging down. The Rock n’ Play is very portable, if you wanted to travel with it and overall a great sleeper. While there is actually no automatic rock option and only one vibration setting, which is the only downside. There is not ac adapter, however the battery life seemed to work fine for us. On multiple occasions I would forget to turn it off, and the next morning it would still be vibrating. The one vibration setting does work well and is great to help baby relax or fall sleep.

We were  also fortunate enough to be gifted the Fisher-Price Deluxe Newborn Auto Rock n’ Play Sleeper with Smart Connect. Unlike other sleepers, smart connect allows you to turn on and off/customize the Rock n’ Play from your phone, so you don’t have to get up! Since we were gifted this when my was was 4 months old, I cannot speak for how this will do for a newborn, but it is super handy for an infant. The smart connect feature is just what every mother would want! You do everything from your phone, and can customize up to two  preset settings in your phone. This rocker features 2 hands free rocking settings, 3 different vibration strengths, 2 modes for nap time or sleep time, and adjustable sound. The body insert is plush and easy also easy to remove and machine wash. Overall I really like this rock n’ play because it does offer so many different cool features, so you can find just the right combination to soothe your baby. The overall design is very light and portable! For parents who do not want to buy batteries, the sleep also comes with an ac adapter. If you’re looking for a luxury rock n’ play, this bad boy is the one. My husband and I were so surprised at all the cool options, though it may not be all necessary, it’s super nice to have!

If you are able to purchase a swing or are looking for something to put on your registry, I would highly recommend a swing. My favorite is the Fisher Price My Little Snugapuppy Cradle and Swing. Something about the swinging motion with the rotating mirror mobile and music, really helps to soothe babies. This swing worked wonders for my little man! Now there are so many swings on the market and some cuter than others. Though this swing may not be the cutest on the market, it is cute and an overall awesome swing. Even at almost 5 months of age, my son still loves this swing and for the price, It is a steal! Compared to other swings that will run you easily one hundred dollars and up, this swing is less than eighty dollars and works better than some of the more expensive swings I’ve seen. Some of my girlfriends have had other swings, such as the Ingenuity or portable swings, and have told me that is not as well constructed or in general good as the Fisher Price Little Snugapuppy one. We have play dates all the time, so our babies are constantly using each others equipment. The Snugapuppy is a great solid swing. The music quality comes out very clear with adjustable sound settings, offers two swinging motions (side-to-side and head-to-toe), has a rotating mirror mobile above, and has different levels of swing speed. The seat cover is also very soft and machine washable. This does require 4 D batteries, but does come with an ac adapter. Now if you have a small space, I understand that you may want to opt for a portable swing and while not all portable swings are bad quality, in my experience it not the best investment especially if you have a chubby baby. When my baby was a newborn, I did not experience any problems. As he grew and ever so chubby, I was disappointed at how quickly he outgrew it and would often even sink to the floor! The Fisher Price Snugapuppy is an overall solid great swing and one I would highly recommend.

Now whether or a mom or not, if you have been around children, chances are you have seen the Bumbo before. It is probably one of the top most registered items, that is meant to help encourage your baby to sit. Now manufacturer details will say that this can be used from 1 month and up, but from personal experience, friends experiences, and research, I would not suggest using a Bumbo until your baby is able to hold up his own neck (roughly around 3 months and up). I had this chair and used it for my son’s 100 days celebration and even then it was a struggle. I had to hold him up in it or else he would just topple over. Using the Bumbo actually before a baby is physically able can be bad for them. I remember trying to put him in there because I figure he might like it, and also because I was just so darn excited to see my little man sit, and he did not seem to enjoy it. Using the Bumbo too soon can actually cause incorrect postural alignment. When I attempted to put him in the chair even at 100 days, he had a rounded back and was leaning over completely and would have fallen over if I did not hold him in place. So personally, I would not recommend the Bumbo as your little one’s first baby chair. If your baby does have good neck strength and can support his/her own head (roughly around 4 months), then the bumbo is a nice standard chair.

My son at 100 days using the Bumbo. I was behind him hiding, so he wouldn’t topple over!^^

The chair that I actually prefer over the Bumbo is the Fisher Price Sit-Me-Up Floor Seat. After researching all the different kinds of baby chairs, I registered for this chair based off of all the positive reviews and am so glad that I did! Compared to the Bumbo, the Sit-Me-Up Floor seat has a high back, which allows your baby to comfortably and securely sit in. At around 3 months, when my son was starting to develop his neck strength, he was able to sit it this chair without toppling over. The chair itself is still quite large, so you will probably need to stuff it with a cloth or blankey. It’s very lightweight, easy to fold, and  very travel friendly. My place is not very large, so I also like the fact that I can fold up the chair and tuck it behind the table or against the wall. The fabric covering the chair is soft and easy to remove and machine washable. The best feature about this chair is hands down the high back, which makes a big difference for baby being able to sit comfortably. When your baby gets a little older and begins to start grabbing things, this chair is also nice because it comes with two linkable toys that they can play/chew on. Overall I highly recommend this chair if you are looking for a chair for your little one. My son still loves sitting in it!

For moms who are too tired to read or just figure it would be the same as the regular bumbo but just slightly modified, please make sure to read this before purchasing this chair. I was gifted this Bumbo chair, but before I read the specifications, just figured that this would be the same as the regular bumbo but with a tray attachment. The Bumbo Multi Seat Tray is for babies 5 months and up, so if you are looking for a first baby chair, this is not the right product. The Bumbo Multi Seat is more of a next step in seating for your baby, and should already mastered sitting in the regular bumbo floor seat.

Now the Mamas & Papas Baby Snug Booster With Tray chair is also one I enjoyed. It looks very similar to the Bumbo Multi Seat with Tray, but can actually be used for babies anywhere from 3-18 months. My girlfriend has this chair and whenever we would have play dates, my little man loved sitting in it. The chair also has a higher back, similar to the Fisher Price Sit-Me-Up Floor Seat, which allows your baby to comfortably sit in without hunching or falling over. The inside is a bit larger, so you may need to stuff it with a blanket or small towel to help your baby stay in more securely.  The great thing about this chair is that it offers a tray attachment, which is great for attaching baby tray toys to help keep baby stimulated! For parents wanting to save and not have to purchase a high chair later, this chair can also be used to feed your baby. The only con would be that because it does not have straps attachments, this would best be used for floor use only.
With any baby chair, you always want to make sure that your little one can support their own head and has plenty of neck strength!
Thanks for reading! 🙂  If you have any questions, suggestions, or just want to share please let me know!

To my precious baby boy,

One day you’ll grow up and be old enough to read these posts, and I hope you’ll see how much you are loved.

Liam at 1 Week Old. He was so tiny!

Where did the time go?

How on earth did he grow up so fast?

Where did my little baby go?!

Liam now, at 4 Months Old!

My little mandu is almost 4 and a half months old, yet it seriously feels like I just gave birth. Every fellow mom will tell you how fast they grow, but you can’t possibly comprehend just how fast until you become a mother yourself. Becoming a mom changes you in body and soul.

As I stared at my sons face tonight after putting him down, so many thoughts ran through my head. How crazy and amazing these past 4 months have been, oh how so much has changed! Motherhood has made me lose my mind, but find my soul.

When I was in my early 20’s, if you had told me I would be married at 27 and a mom at 29,  I probably would have laughed at you. I always figured I would get married around my 30’s, when my career was a bit more established and a mom in my early-mid 30’s. Any time before then just seemed so young and crazy to me, back then. Even after I got married, the idea of having a child was terrifying. Having to give birth to a watermelon and all that screaming from the pain…yeah I just couldn’t fathom it all.

Now, I can see that it really doesn’t matter what you want. You can never really prepare yourself for when the best time to become a mom is. Of course you can plan and prepare financially and even a bit for your career, but the timing will never be as perfect as you want it to be. You will always say to yourself, I want to wait until I get that next promotion or have worked a bit longer, or want to save more money and own a home before i think about having children. The list will go on and on. This is by no means to say forget financial stability and your career, but more just to say that regardless of how much you prepare, one can never fully prepare themselves for motherhood. It is one of those things that can’t be explained, but experienced.

I remember when I first got married, so many of my girlfriends with kids and family would tell me how tiring being a mother is. I heard them and could empathize, but now I see that I had no idea what I was talking about. Before I was a mom, even my most tiring day could never compare to how tired I am now! Motherhood is the hardest job on earth…

These past 4 months has been like one big blur. I gave birth, never slept, cried, felt exhausted, and then BAM my baby is now 4 months old! Well maybe not exactly, but I do officially feel like I am now apart of the “Moms who never sleep club.” While I still feel that motherhood is the hardest job on earth, I also feel like it is also the most rewarding! I can see why God blessed me with my son and made me a mother.

I look at my son and his little sweet face smiling back at me and can’t imagine my life any other way. The emotion you feel as a mother is just so surreal. When your child is happy, you feel happy, when your child is sad, you feel sad. There is nothing in this world that can produce that kind of pure joy or heartache you feel, as when you’re a mother. With that joy and heartache also comes growth. You grow so much as a woman and person. Everyday I feel like I go through a billion emotions, and for that I am thankful. My son teaches me everyday what unconditional love looks like and the true meaning of being selfless. Everyday is not easy, but there is always something good in each day. As he grows, I hope to never forget that…

Whether you’re expecting or already have a little one, decorating the nursery is one of the most exciting activities mamas look forward to! When I was pregnant, I loved looking through all the shops, mentally planning everything my little mandu (dumpling in Korean) would need. So, I thought it would be fun to create a nursery wishlist for all you mamas looking to decorate, redecorate, or just looking for some ideas. I remember when I was shopping, I was all over the place. Every mom wants their babies nursery to be cute and perfect, but don’t always have limitless resources to make that happen. If you’re a mama on a budget and looking for some great ideas without breaking the bank, I hope this post helps you!

You’re expecting a baby and need to buy a crib right?  Of course a baby needs have a place to sleep, but before you decide on the which crib to buy, you have to think about which type of bedding system will suit your life style. A crib is great for babies who will be sleeping in them, but from my experience that is not always what happens. Many times of my fellow mommy friends have cribs that are used for storage or as a decorative display pieces. Though the crib is the most traditional choice of bedding, there are different types of beds you can choose from!

If you are looking for a traditional crib with a modern flare, I love the Babyletto Modo 3-in-1 Convertible Crib . Now I know this is not the most budget friendly piece at $279.99, but in my opinion it is worth the splurge. There will be plenty of pieces in the nursery where you can save or go cheap, and trying to cut costs on such a major item where your child will be sleeping everyday should not be one of them. This crib is a 3-in-1 convertible crib, and can turn into a toddler or day bed, which means that the crib can grow with your child! The Babyletto is definitely more of an investment piece, but one that I personally have loved so far! One problem I found when shopping for a crib was that it was very difficult for me to bend over and able to reach inside. If you are a shorter woman, it can be difficult to easily access your little one, so having an adjustable mattress feature is awesome. Another plus for this crib is that it comes with the toddler rail, so you do not need to purchase one separately in the future.

If you want to save money and rather purchase a bassinet style bed first, I would recommend an arm’s reach. When you bring your baby home, a crib can be bit large for a newborn. While many babies don’t seem to mind, some babies do prefer the snugness of a bassinet. Bassinets are smaller than cribs and can offer more comfort and security to a baby. I had an emergency c-section which caused me to be bedridden for weeks. My c-section was not planned and having the Co-sleeper at arm’s reach was extremely helpful for my recovery. Arm’s reach bassinets are called “Arm’s Reach,” because it allows for mommies to reach their baby within arms reach.  This can makes life easier for breastfeeding mamas! In the beginning, your little baby will need to be feed often and having to get up and out of bed can be very stressful and taxing on the body. If you have a c-section, then an arm’s reach bassinet will be very useful! Another great aspect of bassinets are that they offer much more portability than a cribs, for those moments when you need to roll your baby over from the bedroom to another room in the house. The only downside is that you will most likely not be able to use the bassinet for very long. Depending on your babies weight and height, I would say the most you would be able to get out of the bassinet is 6 months. I really enjoyed the Arm’s Reach Bassinet, however if you already have a crib it is not necessity.

Bedding is a major focal point and can really tie a room together. The crib is one of the largest pieces in the nursery, so it’s natural that your eye would gravitate towards the bedding as well. If you’re on a budget, neutral bedding is always the best option. You can always add decorative accent pieces to the nursery to bring it all together. In an age of social media, taking photos of your baby on a neutral back drop is also better for photos. If your crib will be used mostly as a decorative display for a few months until your little one is big enough or you’re able to part ways, you can also always use a patterned Muslim blanket as a crib sheet. It’s light and airy and comes in a wide range of cute patterns. Also, before purchasing any bedding set, make sure to shop around! I always like to look online to see what stores are offering what, in case you find an item you can price match or get discounted. Nowadays almost everywhere price matches, so you can usually find a better deal.

I love aden + anais anything, because it is 100 % Cotton Muslim and just so darn cute! The material is very soft, breathable, and offered in a variety of patterns. My baby uses his both during warmer and cooler nights. When shopping for any bedding, you want to try to buy sheets that are 100% cotton or majority cotton blend. Another great option are sets! This one is a great neutral bedding set you can find at Baby Depot at Burlington  for $105.99 (3 piece bedding set), that can easily be modified for a girl or boys nursery with accent colors, stuffed animals, and other decorative pieces.

You’ll  discover that with a baby, comes a whole bunch of baby stuff! There will be diapers, wipes, baby clothes, stuffed animals, and toys you were gifted, everywhere! The key to not feeling overwhelmed is to stay organized. When your home is more organized, I find that your mind feels a bit more organized and at ease.

I have a smaller place, so organizational bins like these are great! You can use them to put diapers and wipes, because later, every room in your house will need a diaper changing station. My little mandu is now 4 months old and has accumulated many toys. With his stash growing everyday, I find that having bins to put his toys helps me keep his room and living room a little bit more tidy. More importantly, for someone trying to still maintain some sort of aesthetically pleasing living space, bins can help maintain your sanity! Target has tons of bins you can choose from, from cutesy to more neutral bins, for mamas not wanting to baby up the house. Other places you can go to shop are any Homegoods stores, which you can always find a good deal, or Babies R us.

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed and I was able help and give you mamas some ideas!

Welcome to my blog! My Little Eggi,  or (“ae-gi” in Korean means baby)  is inspired by my son and my new journey as a mother!

May 21, 2016, the day my life changed and I became a mother! It’s been 4 months since I gave birth, and I still can’t believe that I am someone’s mommy…

When I was pregnant, I remember looking up tons of blogs on what to expect, pregnancy symptoms, things to prepare for, pretty much everything and anything about motherhood and babies. I am just one of those woman who like to read up everything, mostly because I get OCD about things like that. I spent many hours during my maternity leave watching other mommy’s on youtube, learning as much as I could! Though now that I’m  a mom, I can see that no article or blog will ever prepare you for the chaos and wonderfulness that is motherhood.Regardless, I loved watching those videos and reading those blogs, because there was a sense of camaraderie in knowing that you’re  not alone and that woman before you have continually done this.

Every since I was a kid, I loved writing journals and keeping diaries of my daily life or thoughts. Its a hobby that I always wanted to come back to. That is one of the main reasons I decided to create this blog. Not only because I love that I get to share snippets of my life and document my journey of motherhood, but also because i love the idea of being able to share and reflect with words and photos!

My son is my muse and inspiration, to live everyday to the fullest and always have a thankful heart. As  a first time mommy, I’m sure that I’ll get tons of things wrong and make plenty of mistakes, but I look forward to sharing that with you all!

Motherhood puts an entirely new perspective on life and who you are, who you want to be, what kind of mother you want to be, how you want your child to be raised,  and the list goes on. For me, more than anything, this journey is about me doing the things that I love unapologetically and with sincerity. More importantly, to never forget the woman I am, so that I can become the great mom my son deserves.

Thanks for stopping by!
